Most bargaining units have one or more Union Stewards who are a select group of rank and file leaders who are the most accessible link between the membership and the Local Union.
Union Stewards volunteer many hours to insure that Local 1473 members have someone to go to when they have questions or problems.
Union Stewards' functions include:
- Educating members on their rights as a union member
- Advising members on contract issues or directing them to the Union Rep for assistance
- Providing guidance to members on workplace issues
- Keeping members abreast of the activities or actions of Local 1473
- Keeping members informed during contract negotiations, as well as dispelling rumors and promoting unity
- Keeping important information posted on the bulletin board for all members to review
- Assisting in Local 1473 Active Ballot and Leukemia Drives
- Keeping Local 1473 informed on workplace issues or contract violations
The role of a Union Steward is always evolving, and that is why they are considered the cornerstone of Local 1473.
Make sure you know who your Union Steward is. Local 1473 has posted in each work location who the Steward(s) is for your workplace. If you do not know who your Union Steward is please call Local 1473.
Union Stewards are a valuable resource for Local 1473 members.
